Challenge

This project was a new facility operated by St. Vincent Hospital located in Indianapolis.  The building construction provided a unique challenge due to the structure being built with wood trusses and commercial frames with all ceilings being drywall hard lids and wood ceilings.  Summit Construction acted as the General Contractor and Construction Manager for this project. Comfort Systems USA Indiana was the mechanical contractor (performed HVAC and Plumbing work) for this project.

Solution

The CSUSA Indiana Team:

·         Worked closely with project engineer to plan routing for the ductwork and refrigerant piping for (2) VRF heat pump outdoor systems with (44) indoor VRF fan coil units and (1) RTU capable of 70% conditioned fresh air for building envelope. All rooms have individual VRF fan coil unit controlled by its own room programmable digital thermostat.

·         Plumbing work consists of (2) high efficiency domestic hot water boilers, each with an input of 1 million BTU’s, digital thermostatic mixing valve with BacNet that will interface with Siemens Digital Control System. Comfort Systems USA Indiana also installed a domestic booster pump station due to the low water pressure in this area of the city.

A Closer Look

The project was delivered on time and on budget.  The project construction started in April 2016 and was completed April 2017.  CSUSA Indiana completed the project with zero safety incidents.  The CSUSA Indiana team received the 2017 ABC Award for Excellence in the ‘Mechanical: Commerical' category for this project.
